With a name like Künt you have to have some way of hitting back for the wisecracks. Harry’s was simple. Dribble glasses, sticky door knobs, exploding cigarettes were all a way of life to everyone in his path. But when two Congressmen joined a multiple pile-up behind a Chevrolet parked by the Long Island Expressway with a nude mannequin on its hood, practical joking landed Harry Künt with a five to fifteen in the state penitentiary.
And inside were some men who thought Harry could help them with the biggest practical joke of his life. Just going out one day and robbing a bank, with the world’s most perfect alibi.
But this wasn’t one of Harry’s little tricks, it wasn’t his kind of thing at all. This was serious and all completely over his head. And to make matters worse there was another joker in the prison. Someone leaving messages. Messages everywhere saying — HELP, I AM BEING HELD PRISONER.

“Professional, interesting, chuckle-making, entertaining.”. . . . The Times
“Endearing comedy of misadventure.”. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .Daily Telegraph Magazine

HELP I AM BEING HELD PRISONER
I woke up and it was still dark. I sat bolt upright and said, “Hey I”
“Mmf?” A sleepy form moved in the darkness next to me. “What ?”
“What time is it ?”
“Um. Oom.” Rustling and rattling.
“Twenty after five.”
“Holy Christ !” I shouted, and jumped out of bed. “I’ve got to get back to prison !” She sat up and switched on the bedside lamp. Squinting at me, she said, “I’ve known some weird guys, Harry, but you’re the winner. I’ve had them wake up and. say, ‘I’ve got to get back to my wife,’ ‘I’ve got to catch a plane,’ ‘I’ve got to go to Mass.’ But I never in my life heard anybody say that they had to go back to prison.”
