This is not an ordinary book: it's a BookCrossing book! BookCrossing books are world travelers - they like to have adventures and make new friends...and every once in a while they even write home to say what they've been doing.

Thanks, Árvores, received today!
I may take a while to get to the end of it because this month is quite busy, but I promise to treat it very well while it is with me.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

We have a saying in Portuguese that goes like “Não batam mais no ceguinho”. It literally means “Stop beating the blind man” and we use it when we think others are being too hard on someone. Well, this is exactly what Yanagihara does to the main character of this book.

Don’t get me wrong, this is a very good book, not so much for the writing, which is good, though not amazing, but for the story, that makes you follow the lives of four young men who become friends in university.

The story is complex, sometimes fun, other times terrible and moving but overall beautiful. I really enjoyed it until around the middle of the book. After that, I just kept thinking - come on, enough is enough, why don’t you just stop beating this guy!

But she did not, turning a very good story into an unnecessarily long story with some very hard to believe scenes. It is still a very good read, but it could have been so much better!

The book is on its way to Árvores - thank you so much for lending it to me. Despite my criticism above, I really enjoyed reading it.
