I've enjoyed many of Lamott's books, including Operating Instructions and Traveling Mercies, and was pleased to find this good-condition hardcover containing essays I hadn't read before. Lamott's pithy humor, sometimes-brutal honesty, and very personal faith that's both practical and spiritual, impresses me more than the vast majority of more traditional faith-based memoirs and essays.
Whether she's describing - in a mix of tears and joy - the passing of a beloved pet dog, or her own unresolved anger at her dead mother, or frustration at the political climate of the country, or hilarity at the latest antics of her son, she's well worth reading.
