I was delighted to find this on the shelves of the Marton-cum-Grafton red telephone box book exchange/community library this afternoon while dropping off a couple of books there because I remember being very impressed with novels by this author in the past: The Gingerbread Woman, Two Moons and The Railway Station Man. I look forward to reading this one as well, although I'm afraid it might take me a while to get around to it as I have loads of other books waiting to be read . . .

Well, with such a good author, it didn't wait around long - and then I read it all, from start to finish in one afternoon! It's a totally engrossing tale of love and family, beautifully written in wonderfully poetic language - and it now has tree-hugger's name written all over it . . . . Superb!

Thanks for this Nu-Knees, I enjoyed it. It was absorbing and very easy to read. I love the way Jennifer Johnson doesn't spell everything out and tie everything up, her storytelling feels so much more authentic for that. Her novels are only ever short and yet they make you reflect on big themes, but never in an inyerface way - she just introduces you to some characters and a story and leaves you to make of it what you will. I like that.
