Margaret Beaufort, of the House of Lancaster and cousin to the King, feels herself to be chosen by God from an early age and to have an affinity with Joan of Arc. Told that she's unimportant because she's a woman, she's sent off to a husband twice her age, but when the Yorkists take the throne from the feeble Lancastrian King, Margaret knows that it's her mission to restore her family to the throne and be mother to a future King. I found Margaret's early piety annoying but her scheming for power is the only way she can have any control as a woman in that time. Enjoyable and insightful.
