I found this fair-condition softcover at a local Savers thrift shop, and nabbed it for another release copy of this book.

I enjoyed this very much - a classic ghost story in the style of M. R. James or E. F. Benson, with an atmospheric buildup, some very chilling scenes, and a resolution that reminded me a bit of Edith Wharton's story "Afterward". (There are even some fairly direct nods to James; one chapter's titled "Whistle and I'll Come To You," reminiscent of one of James' best-known stories!)

If I have a complaint at all, it's that after many, many years of reading every horror story I could find, I wanted a slightly more surprising explanation than there was - but perhaps that's just me {wry grin}.

This is a movie-tie-in edition for the 2012 film, which I haven't seen yet but want to.
