The PreHistory of The Far Side:: A 10th Anniversary Exhibit
2 journalers for this copy...
I picked this up from a local little free library to read. I got home and found a second copy on my bookshelves.
I have read this before but couldn't help reading it again. I loved seeing Gary Larson's early work and how his drawing style evolved over the years.
I am using this to seed a new graphic novel and manga book box.
I'm claiming this hefty softcover from the manga/graphic novel bookbox. I recall Larson's heyday fondly, and look forward to revisiting his work!
Later: A very good collection, with lots of editorial comments from Larson himself, and with many of his early works as well as a set of his personal favorites. There's a section comparing his sketches with the finished art, and one on cartoons that roused some kind of protests, whether by his editors or by members of the public. He even presents some mistakes - his own, in drawing or research, and some printing errors, such as the amusing one in which the captions of his cartoon and of "Dennis the Menace" were switched in a newspaper that presented them side-by-side.
He even includes a full-page image of the species of louse that was named after him - along with the letter from the University of Chicago entomologist who named it. Very good retrospective of his work!
[There's a TV Tropes page for the comic, with some entertaining tidbits.]
