www.fantastic fiction.com The Agatha Award winner debuts a 1930s London mystery series, featuring a penniless twenty-something member of the extended royal family.

Her ridiculously long name is Lady Victoria Georgiana Charlotte Eugenie, daughter to the Duke of Atholt and Rannoch. And she is flat broke. As the thirty-fourth in line for the throne, she has been taught only a few things, among them, the perfect curtsey. But when her brother cuts off her allowance, she leaves Scotland, and her fiance Fish-Face, for London, where she has:

a) worked behind a cosmetics counter-and gotten sacked after five hours
b) started to fall for a quite unsuitable minor royal
c) made some money housekeeping (incognita, of course), and
d) been summoned by the Queen to spy on her playboy son.

Then an arrogant Frenchman, who wants her family's 800-year-old estate for himself, winds up dead in her bathtub. Now her most important job is to clear her very long family name.

An amusement though much more light weight than I was expecting. Despite there being a sense of a different era it didn’t feel rigorously accurate in detail, nor did there seem to be any especially weighty physiological insights to snag my attention. Good fun and I’ll be reading the next in series as I have has it around for a while now. I’ll be avidly chasing other book series before I specifically track down more of these I suspect!

Must add subsequent to reading this I found the next in series A ROYAL PAIN was more diverting and provided the sliver of darkness missing here. Note to self - Add the rest of this series to my wish-list!

Originally picked this up solely for my obcz but decided to give it a whirl. So glad I did.....

Her Royal Spyness by Rhys Bowen - Good

Needed something light and entertaining after my last read and settled upon this one. Perfect choice.

Set in 1932 Georgiana is 34th in line to the throne, the daughter of a Scottish Duke and an actress. Her brother has inherited the title and she is the unmarried cuckoo in the nest (Castle Rannoch in The Highlands).

Off she sets for the family home in London, sans servants, to see if she can make her way in life....and to avoid being married off to some European Prince or other. Of course, there's a murder, her brother is framed and she sets about solving the mystery to clear his name. Oh and there's a bit of romance in there too.

I worked out the killer/motive early on but that didn't spoil a glorious romp of a book. If I hadn't other things to do, I'd have read it in an afternoon. Such fun. Will search out more of the series (this was the first) for times when I need some literary candy floss!

I hadn't come across this series before and found this a fun read. Just what I'm in the mood for at the moment. I loved the characters and the relationship between Georgie and her brother. I will definitely look for others in this series. Thanks for passing this on to me Cassandra2020!

Am I the winner of the Royal Flush Sweepstake? We will have to wait and see...

Thanks bookfrogster!

Journal Entry 13 by wingestelle1806wing at Clonsilla, Co. Dublin Ireland on Wednesday, May 16, 2018
This was a rather light read - the story was not very deep and the light-headed main character not so endearing...
Still glad I read it, though, as I would probably have not picked it myself.

Now reserved for the next Royal Flush Sweepstake Winner...
