1 journaler for this copy...
Young Japanese seaman Hiro Tanaka, trained in the ways of the samurai, jumps ship off the coast of Georgia, only to wash up on a barrier island, populated by rednecks, descendants of black slaves, and a colony of crazed artists, a swamp of American excess and shallowness..
Terrifying one islander - literally - to death, and fleeing not only from the Immigration Agents but also from an elderly lady who is convinced he is Seiji Ozawa, naive Tanaka is unwittingly caught up in a hilarious and irretievably complicated spider's web of misunderstandings. His sole refuge on the island, the manipulative and ambiguous wanna-be novelist Ruth Dershowitz, only draws him in ever deeper.
This is a pitch black, tragic comedy, a cultural clash with fatal consequences. A must read for any writer.

It went with my dentist who will hopefully give it to somebody who writes a journal entry. I'd be happy to hear again from this book.
