The Ladies of Grace Adieu: and Other Stories
4 journalers for this copy...
A collection of Faerie stories by the author of Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell.
Taking to pass along at today's BC-in-DC meetup.
A pleasant return to Susanna Clarke's alternate world of faeries and magic. Like Clarke's Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, this collection is written in a style where the book and stories are told in an academic way. There is even an introduction by a fictitious professor who is made out to be the editor of this collection. Such a unique and very Susanna Clarke way of writing and she pulls it off well!
I particularly enjoyed the first and last stories.
'The Ladies of Grace Adieu', which shares its name with the book, teaches Jonathan Strange, from Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, that just because you don't teach women magic doesn't mean they don't learn it.
'John Uskglass and the Cumbrian Charcoal Burner' teaches the Raven King a lesson even if he doesn't fully grasp what that lesson truly was in the first place. :/
The collection also included 'Mr. Simonelli or the Fairy Widower' which I read in Happily Ever After a couple of years ago. I had forgotten the story so I got to enjoy it all over again!

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
Sending to the person who chose this book from the 1st line game at the 2020 Zoom BCinDC Holiday Party!
❄️ ❄️ ❄️ ❄️ ❄️ ❄️ ❄️ ❄️ ❄️ ❄️
Selected this book at our annual Holiday Party first line game. For the second year, I had decided to take any books with the word “love” in the first line. This has been the only one with the word “love.” I usually enjoy short stories and I’m looking forward to reading these. Thanks Spatial for sending it. Glad you’re able to attend our get-together by Zoom.
There are too many books in my house, so it's time to share with others.
Hello! So glad you found this book. If you are new to BookCrossing, welcome! I hope you'll leave a journal entry. You can remain anonymous or join BookCrossing (it's free!).

I decided that I might get this book read in the next 2 to 3 years, so I was willing to bring it home and add it to the stack.
