I enjoyed Volume 1 and Volume 4 of this cute, silly series, and decided to pick up this volume after spotting it at Barnes and Noble today.

It continues the 4-panel-strip humor about high school student Tatsumi and his apparently-permanent roommate Wakasa, a merman who has taken up residence in Tatsumi's bathtub, along with an assortment of other mer-people who wander in.

This volume includes a maybe-real, maybe-not flashback to a near-drowning incident in Tatsumi's childhood, when he was rescued by merman Wakasa. Then we return to the usual snippets-of-fun strips, which include things like sharkman Agari getting to speak for a change - and he's scary when he opens his mouth!

Later on there's a bit where poor little snail Maki has his shell stolen by a hermit crab, and takes shelter in a grape-flavored-beverage bottle, from which he's rescued by Tatsumi after seeing some boys kicking it around. The attempts to find a new home for Maki are... interesting!

Then Wakama gets it into his head that he'd like to try lying in a hammock, which results in him getting all tangled up in a net - cue the arrival of a new character who's able to snip the strings free: crab-man Echizen! It seems that Echizen loves teasing Wakama - and also that Tatsumi loves eating crab, so when he first meets the new arrival he can't help drooling a bit.

More fun is had when Echizen goes through moulting, which is treated like labor-pains by our heroes. And then Tatsumi turns up an old video camera and the gang decides to shoot a movie - featuring Agari in the natural role of "Jaws", of course! His leap-out-of-the-water scene is scary/funny/cool.

More self-referential fan-service with all the pretty mer-folk, and plenty of silly humor.

[There's a TV Tropes page on the series. There's an anime as well, though it doesn't seem to have been dubbed in English yet.]]
