I got this good-condition hardcover from the Book Cellar. It's a charming look at ice from the viewpoint of a rural family and their friends, as they wait for ice-skating time. From the first thin skin of ice on buckets of water to the ice that's thick enough that you can lift it out of the bucket and look through it like a pane of glass, to the homemade skating rink that the family built and tended after snowfall ruined the skating surface on the ponds, it's a delightful exploration of winter fun and seasonal change.

I plan to leave this book on a bench near the pond this afternoon; hope the finder enjoys it!
