Given to me by my sister :)
This book was so sweet and captured all those overwhelming teenage feelings perfectly, and that's before you throw in that Steffi struggles to speak due to anxieties and Rhys is deaf.
Having anxieties is a funny thing, I think we all have mild anxieties about something but obviously when it's more extreme, it becomes an issue. I know that I can sometimes be judgmental about what other people are anxious about, yet expect everyone to understand mine. Mine are generally driving related 'Yes, I know I have a car but I can't drive there, I've never been there! I don't know what the parking will be like? What if I have to parallel park!?, I just won't go....' And I suppose the judgemental bit comes from not knowing if someone is actually feeling that way or using it as excuse to get out of something. I try not to judge but I am a flawed human being.
Anyways back the book, this talks you through all the teenage milestones, first relationship, first hand job, losing your virginity, break ups and the falling out of best friends. Along with the struggle for independence from your parents. Steffi and Rhys experience all of this and also have to face their own personal problems as well.
This is a book about how to communicate, in all sorts of ways. And it's damm good one!
