I loved Volume 1 of this cute, silly series, and decided to dip into this volume after spotting it at Barnes and Noble today.

It continues the 4-panel-strip humor about high school student Tatsumi and his apparently-permanent roommate Wakasa, a merman who has taken up residence in Tatsumi's bathtub. At this point Tatsumi has met several other mer-people, including Takasu (octopus, good at massages), Maki (a tiny mer-snail, very shy but great at cleaning the tub), Mikuni (a mer-jellyfish, nearly transparent), Goromaru (mer-starfish), and Agari (mer-shark - he looks quite dangerous but seems rather nice). Tatsumi has a few human pals too, including his persistently-annoying little sister Kasumi (who declares she's going to marry Tatsumi when she grows up), his school friend Sousuke (who apparently doesn't know about the mer-folk yet), and his uncle Hisatora, a ne'er-do-well who keeps handing Tatsumi his experimental bath-salts - which have a variety of unexpected effects on ever-eager-to-try-them Wakasa.

Each chapter has a story of sorts, ranging from very silly to occasionally threatening - but always with a punch-line to keep things light. There's the "too humid" segment in which Wakasa's hair takes on a variety of extreme curly styles; there's an exceptionally funny bit in which all the guys seem to be putting on their best bishie-sparkle enticements - but just who are they trying to seduce? [Hint: It's not Tatsumi.] There's uncle's "youth potion" that turns Wakasa into a childish version of himself - mentally, not physically. There's the karaoke segment - seeing which songs each character chooses is pretty hilarious.

And then there's the bit in which the entire gang gathers to do a ritual cleaning of the sacred bathtub, by way of making their own ritual - and thanking the tub for its many gifts. Sadly for the tub (and Tatsumi's budget) the gang uses a variety of incompatible cleaning products... cue explosion!

There's even a fun segment in which the power goes out, so all the panels are completely dark - until some phosphorescent sea-life turns up - and we find out which part of Wakasa actually glows in the dark!

This volume does include a few segments that take place at Tatsumi's school, where he and his pal Sousuke continue their ongoing rivalry at various exercises and field sports. Whether this will ever tie in to the bathtub-crew storylines isn't clear...

Very silly series, but I'm enjoying it. And the mer-guys are so darned pretty!

[There's a TV Tropes page on the series. There's an anime as well, though it doesn't seem to have been dubbed in English yet.]]
