Judith Raleigh works in London for an exclusive auction house under the despotic rule of a certain guy called Rupert. She feels deeply humiliated when she is expected to humour a disgusting colonel who gropes her and tries to rape her. But she knows that complaining won't do any good. She gets herself out of the situation feeling dirty and knowing that high-class wannabes would never accept her on their circle.

But she has a plan which gets improvised and improved along the way. The thing begins with working of a night club with pretensions to be something else. Girls who get caught having sex with customers are immediately dismissed, so that suits fine Judith - who will go by the name of Lauren there - until she decides to roll the dice and take on a particular guy.

She will be pushed even harder with asshole Rupert sacks her for something it was not her fault at all; all the opposite, she was trying to score some points with the company researching about a Stubbs which has shown up from a farmers' cottage in the middle of nowhere.

It is sexy, and I guess that it can be seen as an independent novel. I didn't know it was part of a trilogy or I wouldn't have bought it. It is not badly written, although I could have done without the raunchy staff. After the Stubbs research, there is no further mention of the case for a further 100 pages, which for me was a letdown.
