This was a compelling read, with a hopeful slant. Winterson writes about her intense, and often tragic, childhood but also reflects on its effects on her adult life. I think anyone who has lived with an unstable family member can relate to parts of her tale, and the fact that she has discovered a way to successfully live her life is an encouraging message for the reader.
