Journal Entry 1 by wingPlum-crazywing from Brighouse, West Yorkshire United Kingdom on Thursday, January 19, 2017

It's Spring Break of senior year. Anna, her boyfriend Tate, her best friend Elise, and a few other close friends are off on a debaucherous trip to Aruba that promises to be the time of their lives. But when Elise is found brutally murdered, Anna finds herself trapped in a country not her own, fighting against vile and contemptuous accusations.

As Anna sets out to find her friend's killer, she discovers hard truths about her friendships, the slippery nature of truth, and the ache of young love.

As she awaits the judge's decree, it becomes clear that everyone around her thinks she is not just guilty, but dangerous. When the truth comes out, it is more shocking than one could ever imagine...

Elise is dead.
And someone must pay.

…& that someone would seem to be Anna. Out of the group of friends on holiday, Anna is the one standing accused of the murder of her best friend Elise.

This is one of those books that I either have to bang on about (& use spoilers) or be brief (& avoid spoilers!) & I'm going for the latter...
Cleverly told from Anna's point of view, from past to present, including interviews & transcripts, what follows is a tale full of love, betrayal & lies....but who's lying & who's telling the truth is not easy to fathom out.

This corkscrew of a tale had me suspecting everyone in turn (I even considered a bizarre suicide at one point! Elise talking of how she'd commit suicide; "A knife, I guess. Slice my wrists, bleed out all over the cream carpets. Give my mom something to complain about" )

I more often than not moan about the endings of books but this one caught me a bit by surprise & I do like it when that happens...*satisfied sigh*
A cracking read :o)

You see? How simple it is, how one little piece of information changes everything.
How it all just falls into place.
Betrayal.
