This is a book of two halves really. Firstly about the puppies and secondly about the couples struggle to have children.

The couple decide to become foster puppy parents for a charity that provides helper dogs to people with disabilities, and this was a great shout out for the charity and any associated charites along a similar line. Megan has two dogs over the period of the book that then go on to be fully fledged helper dogs and you can see how much these dogs can change the life of their owners when they are paired up after full training. She does explain that not all dogs make the grade and the story of Elvis did make me chuckle, as helper dogs weren't able to use him, they tried him at hearing dogs, police dogs (he was too friendly) and finally bomb dogs, he was great at finding the packages but kept kept bringing them back to the team, he eventually enjoyed life as a pet. Going through the heartbreak of letting their two puppies go on to advanced training Megan and her husband decided they wanted a puppy of their own.

The other side of the story explores their desire to have children and the problems they faced. A good friend of mine has had similar issues so my heart went out to them, although I did get that this was a major part of the story of their lives at that time I did feel it overtook the puppy side of the story at times which is what I had picked to book up for in the first place.

Well, I finally read this book. (spoilers may follow, sorry if they do)

I am Sorry but I found Meg quite annoying and selfish. I know what she really wants is a baby, but at least be happy for other people when they have a baby.

and you knew when you signed up to the Helper Dogs charity that you weren't going to keep the pups long term. Yes, I understand it is heartbreaking to give the dog up, but that's what you signed up to, and do you really think you can but your own way? Did you sign up to give the dogs and their future partners a good start in life or to for the "look at me, look how good I am"

Also, meg seems a little niave, She seems shocked that children who need foster care may need extra care, and if she struggles to give the dog up, how is she going to return a child? Sorry, I am coming acorss as very negative.

It also seems to be, that the dog know exactly which home it should go to. (There was one that failed Puppy dog training, and was placed with someone who really needed it.)

I also feel that in her acknowledgements that she could have made more of how to get involved with Helper Dogs (or at least donate to them). Also for a best friend and husband, Ian doesn't seem very involved with puppies and training and obedience for Helper Dogs (but then Meg seemed to like to follow her own rules. )

Thank you to Kingfan for letting me read this.
