This is one of two books passed to me unregistered and unread by my friend and neighbour Blower who'd been given them by a non-BookCrossing friend. My piles of books to be read are as healthy as ever (i.e. overflowing), so I don't know when I'll get around to either of them, but when I do, and if I'm suitably impressed, I'll pass them back across the fence for her to enjoy as well ....

Amazon Editorial Review: "From glass slippers to glass ceilings, via glam rock, punk, and the New Romantics, the lives of two very different woman from the same small town unfold against the backdrop of a divided nation. It is 1969, and eight-year-old Julia dreams of being a princess. But a fairytale wedding is no guarantee of living happily ever after. It is only when Julia begins to realize her real potential that personal fulfilment beckons, but is it too late to change her destiny? Rebellious 19-year-old Iris is determined to remain childless and carve out a successful career for herself, but as the liberal 1950s give way to the materialistic 1980s, Iris embarks on a passionate affair that threatens to destroy everything she believes in. Two decades, two women, two secrets. And the choices that face us all."

Well, I'm afraid I won't be passing this one back across the fence. I doubt Blower would be any more impressed with it than I was.
I managed a few chapters before quitting but couldn't face the best part of another 500 pages of the same. I didn't engage with any of the characters and wasn't bothered what happened to them.
Apparently it's the middle book of a trilogy and, although it's supposed to stand alone, I suspect it would be more appealing if you'd already got to know some of the dozens of people involved . . . . I'm not interested enough to find the first, finish the second or proceed to the third book!
I'm releasing this one to find a new, and hopefully more appreciative, reader!

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

Left on the bookshelves at the back of the cafe. Please be prepared to donation £1 to the Costa Foundation which builds schools/promotes education in coffee-growing areas.

Well over a million people around the world give their books a unique BookCrossing IDentity number (BCID) before sending them out to find new readers. Since the start of the scheme in April 2001 more than eleven million such books have been put into circulation. This is one of them!

Our hope is that we can track the progress of our books once they've left our hands - and that's possible if finders like you visit the website, key in the BCID and leave a comment, however long or short. It's fun, it doesn't have to cost anything, although the site always appreciates donations towards running costs, and you can remain anonymous if you wish. You don't have to join but if you do you'll be able to number and track your own books!
