I got this slightly-battered softcover at a local Savers thrift shop. It's an anthology of science fiction originally published in Playboy magazine, which had a very good reputation for its fiction - for those who actually did read the articles {grin}. Contributors include Ray Bradbury, Ursula Le Guin, Harlan Ellison, Stephen King, and more. Among my favorites:

Ursula Le Guin's "Nine Lives", in which a ten-clone group joins a two-man team mining a remote planet, only to have a tragedy result in a clone's need to learn to be a "solitary". Very touching.

Damon Knight's creepy and disturbing "Masks," about the potential perils of humans taking on non-organic bodies.

J. G. Ballard's "The Dead Astronaut", which is partly an elegy for astronauts who died in orbit and, in this story, remain there until their crafts eventually fall back to Earth - and partly a scathing look at the most grisly kinds of souvenir-hunting.

William Tenn's "The Ghost Standard," in which some very different lifeforms are stranded together - and encounter a debate as to who should start eating whom in order to survive. A computer is involved, and things... don't go as one might have expected!

And there are plenty more good stories here. Intriguing collection!
