This is my choice for favourite book 2016 roundabout.
I've first read this short story in the collection "Осторожно, триггеры" (Trigger Warnings) along with the other favourite of mine, "Дева и веретено" (The Sleeper and the Spindle). I've ordered this English edition on amazon and I'm sending it directly to the first participant. I believe the illustrations will add to the eerie mood of the story itself.
What fascinated me the most is how skillfully Gaiman uses words. One particular moment near the end of the book left me speechless - I literally needed a moment to take a breath and come to my senses. I don't recommend reading this story before sleep!
The best review of this book I saw goes like this:

Wow this looks amazing. I've never seen anything like it before. I'll have it read and sent by the end of the month (:
Artistic maybe? I'm really not sure how to describe this book. My eyebrows are still furrowed together in confusion. I'm not going to give this book my general star rating because I think i'm missing something. I've never really liked short stories I guess.
I dunno, expected more? I've been finding all the books im reading a bit shit lately. Maybe I need to take a break from books for a wee while.
Shipping to Billbooks next Tuesday (:

Travelling (:
Arrived in Australia this will be my third Neil Gaiman book this year !!
Definitely the bleakest Gaiman book I've read not into graphic novels but this was short and sweet and the illustrations well drawn. For a local flavor it was written for festivals here in Australia and did receive awards. Now off to France
A beautiful book arrived this morning !
I will take Lamilla's advice not to read it at night.

It's a special book and I waited some time to read it. I had to read it twice to better appreciate the text and the illustrations.
Thank you for choosing it Lamilla because I would never had picked it. Thanks to Doctor Who ? ;o)

On its way to the next in the roundabout. Don't be afraid and enjoy ! :o)
Oh, I love your choice, Lamilla! I'm a huge fan of Neil Gaiman and actually considered "Trigger Warning", which also contains "The Truth is a Cave...", for this roundabout. I decided against it because I wasn't sure a collection of short stories is suitable and because I only have a hardback version which would cost more to ship.
"The Truth is a Cave..." is the only story in the collection that I haven't read yet myself - I actually listened to the audiobook read by the man himself (highly recommend it!). I'm really looking forward, however, to reading it now in this beautifully illustrated version.

Read it and really enjoyed it (again). Thanks for choosing this. Will pass it on in a few weeks.

Posted today.
Arrived safely, thanks LilyKlip. Looks good!
This is a quick read, but it packs quite a punch. The illustrations make it especially evocative. It's the kind of story that I'll be thinking about for a while to come after reading it. Thank you, Lamilla, for sharing this. I'll get it sent off to Greece today.
Travelling to alexotanil.
The book just arrived. I'm not a fan of graphic novels but I've read other Gaiman's books and think I'm gonna like this one.
Hmmm... Well... I'm not sure what to say about this book. I guess I should tell you first that I am really not into tales, even more if they are dark ones, and I am not a fan of graphic novels, if this is considered one. I have read some Gaiman's books and I am not quite sure yet if I like his style or not. I mean, I loved "Stardust" but I didn't like "The Graveyeard Book". So, receiving this particular book, I was excited mostly because of the illustrations, which I found really good, but the story just left me... indifferent, I guess.

Arrived today. I've never read any Neil Gaiman - this might be a good start.
The Truth is a Cave in the Black Mountains is neither pure prose nor a graphic novel which left me unsure as to whether I would like this or not. The illustrations are dark and eerie reflecting the themes of regret, loss and grief leading into revenge and a harrowing climax. I think I will read the ending of this again before sending it on.

Received - thank you :) This is one of my favourite authors, so I'm looking forward to giving it a go.

What a beautifully written, horrendously dark, disturbingly illustrated, gem of a story? The rhythm of the writing just borders on being poetry, and when you realise that this was written to be read aloud, then you can see how it works. But even reading it quietly, curled up in bed, it's hard not to be drawn into this sinister world of moving mists, craggy mountains and haunted caves. I liked the two characters and how their roles changed - you are almost certain who is the bad guy of the piece and who the hero. Yet neither are quite what you think.
Disconcerting reading - but definitely worth it!

Off to the next recipient of the Favourite Book of 2016. Roundabout.
Its with me now.
To be honest, this wasn't my usual genre of book but I'm open to reading all different styles of books. I picked up this little gem and began it before bed last night and very quickly I realised that it was right up my street. The illustrations are just excellent and fitting to this tale.
My eyelids were heavy and I tried to fight sleep to finish this and I just wanted to know everything, but reluctant I put it down and slept. Fast forward to this morning when I reached over and finished it.
It was as disturbing as I though it would be, yet intriguing and written so well. The first by Neil Gaiman I have read but certainly not the last. I just listened to the audiobook sample after reading the reviews and will listen to it as soon as I find it.
(My husband is now reading this and will post it off as soon as he is done. He never reads and is enjoying it very much!)

Received as a prize in the colour sweeps. Thank you, I look forward to reading it.
Needed something quick to read on a Sunday night. Very dark and horrific tale. I did enjoy it, loved the paintings. I don't care much for Neil Gaiman but I liked this short tale. Very good choice for the sweeps. I will give this to a friend of mine who also likes these types of tales.
