Interesting, thoughtful book in this "post-racist" world. Funny and provocative, this book pushes you to look beyond your familiar constructs of race and identity.

My goodness! There is a book in this story I would like, the premise is interesting, but I can't cope with the all to funny writing. I'm just not much for the satire, it seems.
I will contact Tuanita and drop the book off to her.

First satire I have ever tried to read in English and, let´s face it, it´s super hard!
English is not my mother language so I really need to get throw the text slowly to understand all jokes… and some of them I don´t…
Up until now it looks like a great satire, I can say I raise my eyebrows in shock almost every page :-) but I will let the book go for the next bookcrosser and try to get one copy in my mother language to enjoy it properly.
I thank BookBirds for letting me keep the book for more than just a month and also for letting me get in touch with satire, which is definitely a genre I need to read more :-) and practice more!
I already asked PenelopeWanders for her address.

This has arrived safely in the Swiss Alps - thanks for sending! It has arrived just after my holiday and rolled in with a few other rings and rays, so it will get in line. I hope to get to it soon though. Thanks for making it available.

This is here as a bookcrossing ring, and I have to say I'm not quite sure what I think of this. I see one of the reviewers at Goodreads likened it to something by Vonnegut Jr., and I can see that. I was a huge fan of Vonnegut as a young adult, but maybe I'm too old for it now, or maybe Beatty doesn't have quite the same magic.
Initially I struggled a fair bit with this, but gradually, and especially after the father was less present/out of the picture, I warmed to the main character more and the book as a whole. I suppose I should be able to take the joke, but the pseudo-educational experimentation practiced on the main character as a child did not strike me as funny or in any way entertaining. Yes, yes, it's meant as satire, but still, satire is a sort of biting wit, and to my mind that means that wit is meant to be there too - not just the bite. Here it's more the mauling nip of a Rothweiler.
I did really love the almost mystical qualities of the main character's produce - what he grew to be eaten as well as what was destined to go up in smoke.
All in all, it was certainly thought provoking - perhaps painfully so in 2017, but I can't say this will be my favorite read of the year.
I have the next address and will try to get this parcelled and out in the next few days -but given my current busy-ness, it might have to be after next weekend. Thanks for making this available, and thank you Tuanita for sending.

Finished this today. I had come across the novel on last year's Booker Prize longlist and put it on my reading list. I didn't know what to expect of it, though. I found it to be quite surprising and entertaining. Thanks for giving me the chance to read it! It'll travel on as soon as I have Edwardstreet's address.
