This book is an incredibly interesting read - it digs deep into the North American obsession with fast food. It discusses history, economics, labour practices, animal rights, workers rights, health and consumer practices in this context. This book should be required reading for all.

I will be sending this book to "wordfiendca" this week.
I just received this book from jenny-lou-who in the mail and I intend to read it soon.
I've been trying to read this book all week because I promised it to goonworks. I find this to be a very depressing book since it describes the "American dream" of becoming fabulously wealthy--that is, by climbing over other people. I wasn't able to finish this book because it just makes me so sad. I hope that goonworks enjoys this more than I did.

A very powerful book. Meticulously researched (which, in the paperback edition, Schlosser continues to amend with an afterword of what he's learned since the first publication) but told through folksy anecdotes which really elucidate Schlosser's point that our fast food nation is destroying us. I will be passing this book onto Serafim.

Just received from goonworks! Thanks! Will review it soon
This book really opens your eyes...I am glad I am a vegetarian! One week after reading this book a friend from work told me that she was at McDonalds and found a BB gun bullet in her burger! It cracked her tooth and she had to get a cap!! Why did no one find this bullet before it cracked her tooth? This book will tell you why... and a whole lot more...

Received from Seferim today, as part of a bookring. Thank you! Looking forward to reading it.
Interesting, informative, well-researched, and well- written. An easily readable non-fiction book that exposes the forces behind fast food in particular and consumerism in general. I am still waiting for the day when fast food is treated like the pariah that smoking is now treated. After reading this book, one would be hard-pressed to continue to support an industry that largely ignores the welfare of consumers, workers, animals, and the environment. And if all that still isn't convincing, just remember: "There is s**t in the meat."
P.S. As a resident of California for several years, I can attest to the fact that In-N-Out Burger, despite its rather naughty-sounding name, is leaps and bounds better than any nationally known burger chain.

Received from fellow BCer NORANEPTUNE today as part of a bookring. Thank you. It is next on my TBR pile and I'm looking forward to reading it.
I really didn't enjoy this book as much as I hoped to. The part of the book that most fascinated me was the history of the fast food market. I hope the rest of the bookring members enjoy it more than I did.

Received in the mail today. Just wanted to let you all know that this one is safe in my hands! I've already began reading it! Thank you so much!
I just finished reading this book. I found it extremely sad...well..actually, it made me angry. I've never before considered the impact of fast food on our nation as a whole...and what I read really opened my eyes! The greedy men who rape our lands and exploit our people for their own selfish purposes...Aaarrgghh! I've never been a big fast food eater, but believe me...after reading about all the injustice and lies that goes into a serving of a burger and fries...I'll never eat at one of those places again! Thanks, Seferim for sharing!

Received in today's mail...will start reading tonight and will journal again when I have finished.
Sending to LeapingLizzards in Fort Myers, FL.
Received this in the mail today. I have a small pile of bookrays to read, but I am a fast reader so it shouldn't be too long for me to get to it.
A great book. I haven't eaten beef since reading it. And it really makes you think about franchises and worker's rights as well as the animals that make our food.
I am sending it ahead today.

Perfect timing, I've been trying to stop eating fast food, and I just read another book that was similar in a way (Divorce your Car, if you want to know). I wonder in Schlosser uses the statistics I read in another book about how an order of McDonald's fries has tested to have more than the legally allowable amount of lead for children? No one thinks to test french fries for that. I can't remember the name of the book I got that from, but that one was an eye opener.
The book I refered to in my first journal entry about lead (not as in bullets but as in lead poisoning lead) in french fries was Fateful Harvest by Duff Wilson.
I thought I wanted to change my diet to all grass fed beef BEFORE! WOW! I appreciate all of the information in this book. I found every aspect of it interesting and informative, though I do think there was a touch more editorializing than necessary. But it didn't bother me any.
I apologize for being so slow in reading this. I usually read much more quickly, especially a book I've been anticipating as much as this.
I'll be sending on ASAP.

I hope that this book resurfaces! There are still so many people who want to read it. I will keep my eye out for another copy if this one is not found soon.
