3 Poor; lost interest - a chore, possibly put it down
From the back cover: For more than 300 years the legend of the 'man in the iron mask' has held a place on the stage of human enquiry and debate. From the time of his incarceration during the reign of Louis XIV right through to our modern day the awful fate of many condemned to live a lifetime with his face encased in iron has inspired anger, horror, pity and fascination. ... As the prospective candidates includes the twin brother of Louis XIV, the Duke of Monmouth, Richard Cromwell, Moleire, Nicholas Fouquet, an American archbishop, an Italian astrologer and the mysterious Eustache Dauger, are brought before the reader's attention, the mystery deepends and the excitement of the quest unfolds.
--------
I wanted to love this book, but I found it fairly dry and uniteresting. Part may have been my mood when I read it, and I suspect part was the book itself. The man was well treated, not in iron. I read this a few months ago and have found it to be forgettable, not even remembering who the author chose as their theory.
