Ten Dozen Waters

As an adoptive Dub, this was a fascinating read. As the author remarks, you don't even know some of these rivers are there, and there are so many. The photographs are nice too. And the historic maps are nice too, I especially like the map showing the old tram lines on the back page, and the "Lewis" map of the county on the back cover. That cover map shows an amazing number of rivers, and also a whole bit of Dublin down around Ballymore Eustace and Dunlavin! The book is A5 in size, and would be great in A4 or bigger, but I imagine there'd be cost issues, as it was, I picked it up for a fiver in Chapters (cover price 7.99). A bonus, as a Corkonian, was a section on Cork rivers, only those that touch the city but I learnt some things there too. There is a section on Belfast too. All in all, a good way to pass a flight, though the best would be to take it for a few walks in Dublin.
