I remember reading this series at school when I was either 12 or 13 and at the time I wasn't that keen on them. I guess at that age nobody wants to be seen. My friend ended up passing this series onto me when she moved house at the beggining of the summer as she didn't want them any more.
So I ended up rereading and enjoying the whole series. It had a likeable and easy to follow plot and a few likeable characters.
Book Description
In the walled city state of Aramanth, rules are everything. When Kestrel Hath dares to rebel, the Chief Examiner humiliates her father and sentences the whole family to the harshest punishment. Desperate to save them, Kestrel learns the secret of the wind singer, and she and her twin brother, Bowman, set out on a terrifying journey to the true source of evil that grips Aramanth . .

Also charity shops may well discard books that have been labelled in any way and they mostly chose only the books in the very best condition
to place on their shelves and discard the rest-so another bad release option.

Received this week as a RABCK from Abi-Gibby, really looking forward to reading the trilogy!

I really enjoyed this book, I thought it had echoes of The Hunger Games in the description of the oppressive society and the way that although the main characters are children they are confronted with some quite violent scenarios.
I thought the different societies created within the story were fascinating, the contrast between the peaceful mud dwellers and then the two very similar but warring factions who wage a never-ending battle in the desert. And the Zars were so creepy!
I'm interested to know what direction the story will go in the second and third books, bearing in mind what happened at the end of the first.
Thanks for sharing, Abi-Gibby!
