Received from rainbow3 quite a while ago but unregistered. I still have a missing one in this series and so have yet to start on it but meanwhile I'll get this registered.

Cover.
"Shakespeare, Arkansas is home to endless back roads, historic buildings, colourful residents - and the occasional murder. It is also home to Lily Bard, the local karate expert and cleaning woman, who's got a particular knack for finding skeletons in closets.

But when Deedra Dean - the local woman of ill repute - is found murdered, her lifestyle leaves more than a few suspects. And being familiar with Deedra's dirty laundry could make Lily the next resident of Shakespeare to die ..."

Like the unexpected dip of a sandaled foot into an autumn puddle, the acerbic tone of Lily Bard’s voice continues to arrest while her, oh so VERY cautious, internal re-configuring in the presence of love, doesn’t fail to entrance.

As the book cover says:
‘Lily is a terrific character…[this] will hold readers as surely as the complex resolution on this cozy on the verge[/]bleeding edge of noir’ Booklist
‘Lily has such an engaging voice, full of pain and redemption, that the collection of clues and the unfolding of the crime take a back seat to her personal story’ Publishers Weekly
‘Lily Bard is an intriguing character, and readers will enjoy her attempts to make sense of human nature in general, and men in particular’ Romantic Times

Oh the variety of this series. Another one read and only the last in the series to go.

Well, this book is back to the faster pace of the first two books in the series and this time Deedra Dean (that we met in book 1) is the victim. Lily's customers are all coming to a sticky end one after the other! and at this rate she will have none left , however her love life is coming to an impasse as well. This book is an encouraging look ahead to future life and I think the last two quotes above are very apt.

Despite the more emphatic mix of themes in this book the murder story is very much more involved than the previous books and Jack's involvement is sidelined in this book as he is away for much of it. Claude and Carrie have a surprise wedding with Lily as 'bridesmaid' to her friend Carrie and set Lily thinking of her future. I liked the themes explored here and they all hung together well. This time I was even surprised at the ending of the book as I had not seen the full denouement coming which I enjoyed even more.

Another success and I am almost sorry to be reading the last in the series now as I have enjoyed Lily Bard.

I do have a plan for this book and it will travel to another reading this series in order fairly soon.

Book four of the Lily Bard series. One of Lily's clients, Deedra Dean, has been brutally murdered. Deedra is known to sleep around and who else should help the police but the person who knows most about her life, her cleaning lady Lily. Enjoyable murder mystery.

Less fighting for Lily this time, and more introspection, which is interesting. The pace picks up at the end with an unexpected twist. Following Lily Bard as she settles in the little town of Shakespeare and overcomes the trauma of her past always provides a pleasurable read.
Mailed today to Icila, next on the list for this volume.

This has arrived safely in the Swiss Alps, and I see it goes back to Flutterbies next... thanks so much for sending and for making this available. Indeed, the start of term is hectic, and a few rings have rolled in and are awaiting their turn, so this will have to be a little patient... once picked up I think this will be a quick read though. Happy autumn everyone!

Fourth in the Lily Bard series, now here as part of a bookcrossing spiral. This one is about Lily's neighbor who meets an unhappy end. Lily senses something is off, and ends up successfully solving the mystery in extremis, fortunately not too far from where the cavalry can make their way quickly. I have to confess that from the get-go, the culprit's sidekick had me raising my eyebrows. Thanks so much for making this series available! I'll try to post it on home soon.

I really enjoyed getting to know more about the residents of Shakespeare, I was sorry that Deedra was the victim but the mystery was intriguing. Again, I find Lily's romantic trysts a bit unrealistic but all in all an enjoyable read.
