I got this fair-condition softcover from the charity-sale shelves at a local Hannaford's. It's a fictionalized version of the life of a Northern Cheyenne woman who took part in at least two battles - including that at the Little Big Horn. The book is based on a number of oral accounts passed down in the tribes, and some artwork produced after the fact, with the authors filling in personal details to make a smooth narrative - though I admit I could have done with a more factual account and less of our heroine's love life. Still, the way the novel highlights the many relationships in each tribe and camp, from siblings to in-laws, spouses to elders, emphasized the tragedy resulting from the conflicts.
There's an extensive bibliography and a description of how the book came to be, also of interest.
