I got this somewhat-battered softcover from the charity-sale shelves at Hannaford's. It's a collection of essays and speeches by Vonnegut, ranging from quirky/amusing to philosophical to pretty darned bleak. (I actually enjoyed some of these more than I've enjoyed his fiction, fwiw.) "Teaching the Unteachable" is a wrily snarky commentary on writers' workshops - the "designer" kind, where the attendees are in more of a fantasy-camp mindset than devoted to the craft of writing. "There's a Maniac Loose Out There" is his look at the crimes of Tony Costa, with a personal note - his daughter had met the man. "The Mysterious Madame Blavatsky" looks at the life of the notorious medium - and makes her a more interesting character to me than her occult fame ever did. And "Invite Rita Rait to America!" introduced me to Rait, an accomplished translator of his work and that of others. And more!
[There's a TV Tropes page on him and his work, with some interesting tidbits.]
