Lagoon Engine Einsatz Volume 1 (v. 1)

I got this good-condition softcover at the Used Book Superstore in Burlington MA. It's a series I'm not familiar with, from the author of D. N. Angel - who has a reputation for leaving series unfinished, so maybe I shouldn't get too attached to this one!
There's some really beautiful and lavish artwork here, especially in the mood-setting introductory panels. The plot seems to be your basic ancient gods are arising/world will end unless the chosen one - er, Scion and Godslayer - can fix things. The success of such plots hinges, for me, on the characters involved, and whether I can relate to them; here, I felt it was too soon to really get a handle on the main characters or their relationships to each other. There is a gender-bending twist - literally - though it doesn't seem to have much impact on the plot so far. And by the end of this volume we have the obligatory nemesis, who (as often happens!) seems to be more interesting than the hero {wry grin}.
The book has a couple of sections of notes, one halfway through and one at the end of this volume, and I found them very helpful.

I'm sending this to BCer HI77 in Florida as part of the US/Canada wishlist tag game. Enjoy!

A soft kiss of whispers,
the words coming back
are so god-like.
