Shame About the Title (Poems that Point and Snicker)
2 journalers for this copy...
I picked up this slim softcover because of the title. It's a very... unexpected... collection of poems, often quite self-referential, and a lot of fun. With occasional turns to the dark side...
Starting with the copyright notes and the dedication page it's clear this is no typical book. The poems' topics range from maternal bragging to "puppy poopies", and from a general-purpose weather report ("I've never been wrong yet!") to "Some Kind of Sick Parable", in which a bully gets his comeuppance, the victims discover what really drove him to it - and... then things get very dark indeed. "Mood whiplash" at its best?
There's a poem about disbelieving in the existence of the guy who disbelieves in the Holocaust, and "Great Title", a poem all about itself: "This poem starts off beautifully/with that fine line you read just there..." Hee!
The poignant "Without" compares the ways in which scents and sounds can be recalled even without external stimulus, but "...without you night to keep, I can't recall a thing that was..."

I took this book from the Little Free Library (which is awesome!) in a park in NH while visiting a sibling. It is with me in MA now...I've flipped through it but really have not cared for what I've read. Stuff about abortions and other distasteful things...not my taste at all. Hopefully the next person will be entertained!
