I found this fair-condition hardcover at a local Salvation Army thrift store, and thought it looked amusing. It's a reprint of the 1935 book, second in the series about the nanny with magical powers. I'm from the group that first heard of her via the 1964 musical film, and while the books do have some features in common with the screen adaptation, the book-Mary is a good deal more pithy, often bad-tempered, and generally unnerving than the film version. Still an entertaining story, with some nifty magical retribution taken on an awful visitor who's keeping a lark in a cage, and with the magical merry-go-round making an appearance at the end. (We also see Mary's friend Bert - here, a "Match-Man" and sidewalk-artist, but not the chimney sweep of the film.)
