I found this fair-condition hardcover (with what looks like puppy or kitten tooth-marks on one back corner) on the charity-sale shelves at a local Hannaford's, and nabbed it for another release copy. I'd read the book a while back; it's a Victorian-setting story in which someone is murdering the vampires of London. [Since these are the traditional vampires who live off of humans, one might wonder why Professor Asher, the hero, is even interested in preventing someone from destroying them, but let's just say that one of them comes up with a suitable incentive.]

As the senior vampire - one Simon Ysidro - is compelling and charismatic as well as utterly deadly, my emotions are torn a bit; not uncommon in a good vampire story where one finds one's self liking what is in fact a monster!
