I got this book from a Little Free Library in Londonderry NH, while dropping off some books of my own. It's a novelization set in the "Walking Dead" universe, though I'm not sure whether it ties in more closely to the graphic novel series or the TV version. (I watched the early episodes of the series, and then found myself put off by the sameness of the zombie-bashing and the depressing nature of the favorite-character-death-toll; now I just watch "The Talking Dead", a fannish talk show that recaps each episode and features chats with guest stars. I find it more entertaining to see those interactions than to actually sit through all the angst, not to mention the spells of "characters who should know better behaving really, really foolishly" {wry grin}.)

Anyway: I did enjoy this book, which focuses on Lilly Caul, a timid (at the outset) young woman who's having to deal with the zombie apocalypse with the support of Josh Lee Hamilton, a big burly man with a kind heart and (where Lilly's concerned) infinite patience. (There are other characters too, but as with the main series it's not wise to get too attached to any of them.) As per the title, this book describes how its (surviving) characters wind up at Woodbury, the town/compound where The Governor holds sway, and I know enough of later events to realize that this is not a good place to be...

The book's written well, though the third-person present-tense may not be to everyone's taste. (I found that it added immediacy, fwiw.) And while it devotes most of the story to Lilly and her experiences, we get to see inside the head of other characters here and there, most notably the Governor himself. The text can provide more internal monologues and back-story than the visual forms tend to do, and overall I enjoyed the book.

[There's a TV Tropes page on the book.]
