I got this fair-condition hardcover at a local thrift shop. It's about the USS Houston, a cruiser in WWII that fought in several major engagements and was eventually sunk by the Japanese during the Battle of Sunda Strait. Only a third of its crew survived the sinking, and wound up interned in prison camps for the duration of the war. The fate of the survivors, and even the details of the sinking, weren't widely known until the liberation of the camps at the end of the war. The book describes the ship and key members of its crew from the beginning, through the battle and sinking, and the subsequent ordeals in the camps - as well as the struggles of their families to learn the details of their fates. A detailed look at a lesser-known chapter of history.
