Had this on my shelf for just over a year having been attracted by the title but put off a little by its 650 pages!

Once I started the book I couldn't put it down. It's supposed to be a novel about the laying of the first transatlantic undersea cable between Ireland and Canada, but there is a lot more meat in the book than that. The author is a great storyteller and half a dozen threads are cleverly woven through the book, as the story moves between England, Ireland, Canada and the USA.

I really enjoyed this and will be on the lookout for more from this author.
