Enjoyed this 'Journey into Thailand's mysteries' on planes from Chaing Rai, Thailand to JFK in USA. After a month touring the country, I found 'Smoking Poppy' gave some context to the shadowy activities in northern hills that everyone talks about. Also interesting to read from a working class father's point of view - resonant yet distant love of his daughter and son, trying to reconnect with children who've become strangers, different forms friendship takes, and of course the adventure of the crucial, questionable search in an alien land. A good airplane flight read.
