I was given this ray book at the Unconvention. Looking forward to it!

This reminded me quite a bit of the Finnish novel The Year of the Hare, though I think Doppler spoke to me more. After a blow to the head, Doppler decides he's had enough of other people, niceness and consumerism, and goes to live on his own in the woods, where he's befriended by a young elk called Bongo. It's an interesting read, in places a telling commentary on modern life and in places very funny (he tries to play lotto with his elk!) I realised when I was most of the way through that Loe is also the author of 'Naive. Super', which I read for my book club a few years ago and enjoyed more than I expected to - I prefer Doppler though.
I also want to note that the quote in the start of the book is the last verse of my favourite poem, Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening, by Robert Frost.

On its way to kangaroo who is next in the ray.
Arrived safely after its short hop in Hertfordshire. Barnet may be a London borough but my address says Herts..
Thank you for the beautiful card, too :)
Thank you for the beautiful card, too :)
This is travelling on to Scotland as of today. Bongo was my favourite character - a teenaged elk! Good warm-up for Oslo - time to book flights. See you all there? :)
Waiting for me when I got home from work. The day after I posted I had just caught up with bookrings.

The novel is quirky and amusing in a lot of ways and there were parts of it I really liked. It makes us think about how complicated our lives have become and how simple they could be. I think it is Bongo that will stick in my mind though.

On it's way in the bookring.
Received today. I had forgotten signing up for this so I was pleasantly surprised with my book shaped parcel. Looking forward to reading it. Many Thanks to travelina for starting the ring.
i loved this book!!!!!!
The kind of quirky story that I love. Reminded me of the style of 'A Man Called Ove' by Frederick Blackman. I think I like Scandinavian authors as I also love Jonas Jonasson books too (The Hundred Year Old Man......)
Right, getting in touch with Molyneux now. She only lives 3 miles away so that should be a quick transfer.
Thanks for sending out this bookray, travelina.
Is there a sequel to this, by the way???

Received this at the Oslo BC con. (A big wave to all the new friends I've met here in person!!)
I planned to read it and take it to the BC Con in Mainz but didn't get around to reading it. Then I planned to read it for Gold Coast, and it turned out to be a Non Con. Now finally I read it for the Eurovision Readathon (a fun readathon where you read books from/about as many of the participating countries as possible, and you get points for books from winning countries). This short book is perfect for my goal, but sadly I didn't read a book from Italy, and didn't finish my Moomintroll...
Anyway, I really enjoy reading this book. Bongo really steals the show. While I won't consider sleeping in a tent in the forest for months, I do agree with some of the author's observation about consumerism, culture and how to live a simpler life.
Now this book is ready to join the next BC Con... whenever and wherever it may be...

Released 9 mos ago (6/17/2023 UTC) at Arnotdale House OBCZ in Falkirk, Scotland United Kingdom
WILD RELEASE NOTES:
Finally after three long years, this book can make it to another BC Convention - turns out this elk is heading back to Scotland. Who would have guessed? I think he misses Earthcaroleanne and Falkirk.
Found on the book buffet. Intriguing title.
A wonderfully odd book which was certainly not what I expected it to be. Doppler has a bang on the head when he falls off his bicycle. He then goes off into the forest and lives with a baby elk. If you don't want to throw convention out of the window, don't fall off your bike.
A sometimes humorous and sometimes thought provoking now which doesn't take too long to read. Overall I enjoyed it.
