The Hunger Games
3 journalers for this copy...
Purchased the book to complete the trilogy for a parcel to Nepal. :-)
I don't exactly know how often I read this book. Probably twice in English and then several times, at least in bits, for a seminar about the phenomenon of the Hunger Games trilogy as I wrote an assignment about book and movie I. Because I now reread book II and III and watched the latest Mockingjay movie the fascination captured me again and I also started going through comments and discussion of other readers. As often (even throughout the seminar) I was shocked how easily a lot of readers mix up plotlines, chronology and even the figures (I also forget names, but never the roles appearing). And this time it made me also think a lot about what people take as important story or message in books. I am aware not everyone reads books to get messages or food for thought out of it but only for being entertained and I know it's not up to me to judge that as somehow a bad thing, but I honestly can't realy get around it. I think this trilogy is so brillantly written to show what tyranny, oppression, suffering, greed etc. do to people, how it's important to think for oneself and of course is full of a lot of other very moralizing ideas which don't need to be accepted one to one but give plenty of things to discuss further... and then I read comments of readers complaining about the point that book II and of course III aren't focusing on the arena and the Hunger Games which would be the most entertaining part of the story; it just somehow makes me very sad, even though it shouldn't and even though of course everyone has a full right to read books just because they are entertaining, I just realy don't feel that way...
Anyway, I hope the kids or youths in Nepal will enjoy the books in one way or another. :-)
