Bonkers, bonkers, bonkers. I lost the plot with this one I'm afraid - hadn't a clue what was going on. Sorry Agatha!

Another one of those 'extension to the Christie brand' novels which doesn't really work unfortunately.

Picked up at last night's meetup. I'm guessing that's hardly a surprise as I love Agatha Christie. Despite Susi's review, I'm looking forward to reading this as I don't actually know the story beforehand.

Thanks

I'm with Llittle Suz on this one. According to my ‘Agatha Christie Collection’ a Passenger to Frankfurt delivers a sense of intrigue and suspense. Sorry but I didn’t feel it. This is not like anything Agatha Christie ever wrote and unfortunately it is based on the 60s spies Philby, Burgess and MacLean. I am not a fan of spy stories, confirmed when I tried to read Catch-22 this year and gave up somewhere after page 50. Interesting to note that most of Christie’s friends and family hated this and her publishers weren’t that excited either but sales were good. Maybe the readers in the 70s appreciated it better.

Picked up from earthcaroleanne's 50 favourite books table at the Northampton Unconvention. Happy Birthday! :)

I'm a fan of Christie but I see most of the previous readers didn't like this one much.

I started off quite enjoying this and was wondering what the bad reviews were about. Sir Stafford Nye is on his way home from a tedious diplomatic mission when he meets a mysterious young woman who desperately needs his passport. He can't be sure she is what she seems but he takes the risk - and from there he is drawn into the inner circle of a group opposing an international plot to overthrow governments around the world. The second half is increasingly weird and nonsensical and I found myself no longer enjoying it. This is not at all your usual Christie and I'm thinking that she really should have stuck to Crime. The only bit that spoke to me is where one of the characters talks about how pulling down a world is like a heart transplant, that if you take something away you must have something ready to put in its place.
