The lovely feloris gave me a very pretty hardcover copy of this book, so I decided to offer this paperback (printed in a super readable font and font size!) as a bookring. I hope it will make lots of new friends - who might even discover some new and amazing art because of it. (I recommend looking up all the references to surrealist pieces of art online. I learned a lot while reading this book, and simultaneosly had a lot of fun exploring alternative Paris!)
This way to the bookring sign-up thread.

Blue_berry (UK; EU shipping)

This was great! Thank you very much for organizing the bookring!
It only took me two days to finish, but I wanted to look up more of the art mentioned throughout the novel. I'm not at all familiar with surrealism so there was quite a lot for me to discover.
I already have the next address and hope to get the book in the mail this week.

Received with thanks! Thank you SerendipityN for the lovely handmade bookmark! I have great memories of Wuppertal from 30 years ago! :)
Thanks anathema-device for offering this book. I have 2 other BR books waiting so this will be with me a while, but not too long.

The author clearly does not lack in imagination but this was not really to my liking. Too much action and chaos and no sense in any of it. I liked the setting in Paris, which is my favourite city, but that's really it.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
Despite the notes at the end of the book, I still felt terribly frustrated by my lack of knowledge about surrealism while reading this book.
Otherwise, it was quite interesting.
The book is now back on its way to Europe.

I truly appreciate the postcard from BaiLong!
Not the one by this author I liked most but also not the last one. I'm not sure, what was the aim of it but the ideas were interesting.

On the way to Andrasthe.
The idea is intruiging, especially as I enjoy an intelligent alternate history. I adore Miéville's style and usually quite like some of his characters. This time, however, I could not get completely into it. Maybe my lack of knowledge regarding French Surrealism is to blame. There are wonderful sites which provide guidance throughout the book detailing both the visual art and concepts behind, but at this moment I simply am too preoccupied to take it all in.
I shall give this novel another go in the future, though. Thank you for sharing the experience :)

The book arrived back home safe and sound. Thanks to everyone who participated in this bookring and shared their reading experience; maybe the book will travel some more in the future. For now it rejoins the other China Miéville books on my shelf.
