Registering at the request of rainbow3. This book is due to come down to me later, so looking forward to that as I've liked the Caro Ramsey I've read before.

Cover:
A bitterly cold February in Glasgow. Hanging from a rope in the attic of a deserted tenement is the body of a criminal who have been hiding out on the Costa del Sol these last ten years. His face has been hideously disfigured.

Investigating officers DI Anderson and DS Costello believe the dead man to be a suspect in a decade-old case: the rape and attempted murder of a young student by two men. And there are other, similar cases on file. But what has happened to the dead man’s accomplice, ‘Mr Click’?

Then with the discovery of another young woman who has been brutally attacked, detectives Anderson and Costello realize that this terrifying psychopath has started working once more. They must use every trick in the book to stop him. For Mr Click has developed a taste for killing. And to satisfy his lust he will kill again and again…

PLEASE NOTE: this no longer belongs to Aberdeen City Libraries - it is a WITHDRAWN library book.

Wrestled out from midst a book-pile on the 23 January 2016, with a plan to read and release it with other Scottish authors work during the Edinburgh International Book Festival. However, according to a note inside, I had already agreed its next reader would be Flutterbies9. In January I had been reminded by bookcrosser earthcarolanne’s Journal Entry on my copy of ABSOLUTION that I had started this series, way back in 2009, and I had another in hand. Ooops, clearly I’ve jumped book 2, Singing to the Dead so will chase it up soon.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

Rattling riot of a tale sprinkled with a few stinky red herrings and more than the odd mercurial bit of misdirection. A fair amount of extreme characters too and not all of them raging psychopaths. Dark Water is a tense thriller with more ‘gruesome’ than some, though all in keeping with the plot, no tugging on the wellies and gratuitously splashing around in gore. Great holiday escape reading, many a transport delay could be ignored with this gripped in hand.

Sent to, and has arrived with, another ‘Crime Fiction set in Scotland’ fan. My original plan, inclusion in a SUMMER SUN READS parcel, was altered in favour of sending this as a Halloween Read! Couldn’t resist – HAPPY TRAVELS BOOK!

Journal Entry 5 by Flutterbies9 at Meare, Somerset United Kingdom on Sunday, March 19, 2017
Despite my well known aversion to gore, I do like Caro Ramsey's writing so looked forward to this one. Now that it is done I really must remember to add these to my wishlist (though not the public one!). Much more appropriate for Halloween than summer though.

Oh boy, did this shift and turn, squeal and squirm around the central core. A dance macabre around a convoluted plot with avenues closed and turnings abruptly halted. As you may be able to tell, I did enjoy this book and found the ending curiously satisfying and all despite the violence!
There is no requirement to know of the setting for this, in fact, nothing Scottish that can be put a finger on other than the setting, so no fears for those not Scottish to be confused.

No plans for this at present but thoughts are forming for this.
I had thought to add this to my Crime / Mystery bookbox but in the end I had far too many books and this was one of those removed to keep the weight within reason.

It's been a good couple of years since I last read one in this series but the believable characterisations of the main players soon had me feeling I was back with old friends.

While I sussed out who Mr Click was very early on there were still one or two revelations & events that left me reeling. One at least, doesn't seem too credible on reflection but fit the story well & left me wondering how things for one character will move on & I'll be adding book 4 to my wishlist asap.

Overall a really good read -although maybe a tad overlong - & one which can easily be enjoyed without having read the previous two.
