While I enjoy this genre, I really did not warm to this particular book.
I disliked the writing style with overly short sentences and paragraphs and the cliffhangers at the end of chapters which are intended to build suspense but which serve simply to annoy.
I wasn't interested in the NASCAR setting - but that wouldn't necessarily have been a problem if I could have engaged with any of the characters. However, "Tempe" quite simply irritated me. I didn't learn enough about the victims to empathise with them, the Summer and Pete side story added nothing, and Tempe's police colleague (whose name escapes me now) was pure stereotyped "hardbitten bad cop" with his BO, incessant eating and gruff attitude.
