To pick up where another author left off is a bit of a challenge and I think Lagercrantz has done a good job in general but I didn’t enjoy it as much as the others especially as the first book had such a huge impact. I did manage to forget that this wasn't written by Stieg Larsson though. The list of characters at the beginning was very helpful as it has been a while since I read the trilogy. However, I felt Lisbeth Salander wasn’t in it enough as she didn’t properly appear until more than half way through. It was more like Mikael Blomkvist investigates … Plus I felt some of the IT stuff was very complex but then I think I complained about all the financial descriptions in the previous books as well. Another criticism would be that some of the wording didn't feel quite right at times but that would be down to the translation.

The Girl in the Spider's Web by David Lagercrantz - Good but not Steig Larsson Good
Difficult book to review. It is supposed to be a continuation of Steig Larsson's Millennium Trilogy, but it just isn't up to that standard. There is no comparison.
If, on the other hand, you judge it as a standalone mystery/thriller with some familiar characters in it. Yes, not bad at all.
We're back in Stockholm, Sweden and all the characters from the Trilogy are there with plenty of reference back. This time a Swedish Computer Entrepreneur, and genius, is murdered and the only witness is his severely autistic son. Of course Mikael Blomquist just happens to be on the doorstep, about to interview him, when the murder takes place and he soon discovers Lisbeth is embroilled in the background.
Cue a fairly easy reading romp from incident to incident before things are tied up at the end....oh and he's left himself room, and enough loose ends, to write a follow up. Not sure if I'll bother or not. Will depend on whether, like this one, someone puts one up as a bookray or if I come across it in a charity shop etc. Certainly won't be rushing out to pay full price for it!
I have the next address now, so will be posting on ASAP

I loved the Millennium series and I wasn't sure if I would love this book as much as the series but it didn't disappoint! I really didn't notice that this was written by a different author; quite amazing if you think about it. I really hope he continues to write more to follow...
I've requested the address of the next person on the list (lmarshall89)so hopefully the book will be on its way soon.

This has sledded in (well, maybe not), arriving in the very snowy Swiss Alps (finally - it had been so dry for weeks!). This arrives at a very busy time work-wise and it's skidded in behind another ring or two, so it may be a few weeks before I can get to it. I'll do my best. Meanwhile it's safely here, dry and warm. Thanks so much for making it available and for sending.

The good news for me is that I did not buy this, but read it as a bookcrossing ring.
This is good news, first of all but not only because I felt this was not quite up to Larssen's standard (I'm not sure I would have continued the series if this had been the first I'd read). More importantly, as has been pointed out by Beth at Goodreads, this seems to have been written with the support of the family who so ignominiously mistreated Larssen's long-term partner - who helped write the books and then was disinherited! I find that not only disappointing but a bit shocking.
Again, as Beth pointed out, the interaction between Salander and Blomqvist is so minimal - and indeed, even their emailing is done mostly through a third party. This is quite a shame as they are the strongest characters. On the whole I did enjoy the read, and was intrigued by August most, perhaps.
I'm glad to have had the chance to read it thanks to bookcrossing, as I would have been curious. Thanks so much for making it available and sending. The next two participants have asked to be skipped, so I will be sending it on to the USA.

This is now making its way from the Swiss Alps to the USA. Enjoy! Again, thanks for making this book available.
Received in the post today. Thanks penelopewanders for the book as well as the postcard and the bookmark about bookmooch (that will give me something to check out, too). Will read and find if anyone else wishes to read it, thus continuing the ray.
A bit slow to start (Lisbeth Salander doesn't appear for about the first third of the novel, and frankly, she is the most compelling character in the series) this suspense thriller continues the series begun by Stieg Larsson. Now written by David Lagercrantz, the reporter Mikael Blomkvist and the hacker Lisbeth Salander return in a case of a murder of a scientist and the protection of his autistic savant son.
Cyber criminals abound, wreaking havoc, and alphabet organizations are being hacked. What do they all have in common? The formidable pair of Salander and Blomkvist. Can they root out the criminals before they become the target?
Lagercrantz does a decent job in taking up where Larsson left off. It couldn't have been easy stepping into the previous author's shoes. Especially considering how iconic the series rapidly became...with the additional factor of the untimely death and controversy over the will.
Waiting for the 'ringmaster (raymaster)' for instructions as to what to do next with the book. If no response, then I will send it to someone who has it on the wishlist.

Thanks to minesayn for sending me this book. I loved the Stieg Larsson trilogy and, based on the reviews, expect to enjoy this one as much.
I'll bump it to the top of the TBR stack and will have it traveling again soon.

I am so happy with this book! When I finished the trilogy, I was sad that there would never be more of Lisbeth and Mikael. This wasn't as tightly woven as Larsson's novels, but it didn't disappoint me.
Thanks to KaleLewin for starting this book on its journey and to minesayn for including me. I will look for another reader to share it.

I searched the wish lists and will be sending this book off today.
Thanks so much for sending on this wish list book. I enjoyed the original trilogy and am looking forward to more.
I did not find this to be as intense as Larsson's books, but there is much to enjoy here. Hope to pass this on to another BCer soon.
