Jack Maggs: A Novel
5 journalers for this copy...
Tried but didn't get into it probably because it's a period drama
Enjoy
Picked up at the York Bookcrossing meetup - looks interesting!

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
I really enjoyed this - Jack Maggs was atmospheric and tense.
SPOILERS I thought the character of Tobias Oates, the writer, seemed based on Chalres Dickens, and his story of Jack Maggs (not so much the real character?) similar to Magwitch. Spotting the similarities was great fun, and the writing at times seemed very Dickensian. But the ending really frustrated me - Carey sets up the most dramatic set-piece, and just... leaves it there! Really reminded me of the ending of "A Tale of Two Cities" which did the same thing! So if it was a deliberately Dickensian twist, it was very clever. But still a bit frustrating. :)
To be released at the monthly York Bookcrossing meetup.

I picked this up at the York Bookcrossers Meetup, but not for me - it's for Nu-Knees. I hope you like it.

Thank you, tree-hugger! It was good to see you today and to receive the three books you had waiting for me, thank you very much :-)
And thank you, Chuggypig, for recommending this as something I'd enjoy! I think I will ....
Not forgetting to thank henrice who registered it in the first place!
In line with my current policy that no BookCrossing book leaves my hands without showing its correct cover somewhere, I've scanned the artwork in here!

I think I sort of enjoyed this, eventually - but I wasn't as impressed as I'd hoped I'd be, probably not helped by the rather disjointed way in which I read it!
To start with it didn't capture my imagination, so it took me a while to get into it, then I didn't take it away with me, then I struggled to rekindle my interest on our return .... but I got there in the end ....

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
Joining the other BookCrossing books during a day out in Leeds!
Well over a million people around the world give their books a unique BookCrossing IDentity number (BCID) before sending them out to find new readers. Since the start of the scheme in April 2001 more than eleven million such books have been put into circulation. This is one of them!
Our hope is that we can track the progress of our books once they've left our hands - and that's possible if finders like you visit the website, key in the BCID and leave a comment, however long or short. It's fun, it doesn't have to cost anything, although the site always appreciates donations towards running costs, and you can remain anonymous if you wish. You don't have to join but if you do you'll be able to number and track your own books!

This is the third copy of this book to pass through my hands. It's about time I read it this time!
