Back cover reads:
One snowy night in Toronto famous actor Arthur Leander dies on stage whilst performing the role of a lifetime. That same evening a deadly virus touches down in North America. The world will never be the same again.
Twenty years later Kirsten, an actress in the Travelling Symphony, performs Shakespeare in the settlements that have grown up since the collapse. But, then her newly hopeful world is threatened.
If civilisation was lost, what would you preserve? And how far would yo go to protect it?

Despite all the hype and multiple recommendations, all I knew prior to reading Station Eleven was that it involved a pandemic and a travelling band of musicians and Shakespearean actors. So I didn't really know what to expect, and certainly would not have expected what was given. Nor how much delight I experienced in reading it.
A post apocalyptic book, yes, but certainly not the usual, being more about loss, yearning and memory. Ambitious, well crafted and excellently executed, the story is compelling and thoughtful. It is nostalgic, gentle and hopeful as much as it is tragic.
A great read.

Thanks to crimson-tide for this wish listed book. Your thoughts have had me place this near the top of my bed stack for reading soon....ish!
A thought provoking read. A post apocalyptic novel showing the before and after effects of a world wide pandemic. Makes you appreciate elements of life that we take for granted and what might be if all that we know was lost.
Posting to wishlist tag game recipient.
Received with thanks. This looks great, hope to get to it soon.
