From the bestselling author of the Mrs. Pollifax books comes a new mystery habit to acquire. From the moment Sister John and Sister Hyacinthe reach the old house left to their abbey by a mysterious benefactor, their cloistered world begins to crumble. First, there is the wounded man hiding in the house, then the suitcase stuffed with money sitting at the bottom of the well, not to mention fearful apparitions in the night. Lord only knows what's going on. That is, until the good sisters, armed only with their faith and boundless energy, set things right--even if it means a shocking revelation or two about ghosts, gangsters...and murder.

Well, this was a hilarious and cozy detective story - but not too hilarious.
I did not guess that Dorothy Gilman could write this kind of stories. I like her Mrs. Pollifax novels even if they are too American and full of admire for CIA which in my opinion is a bunch of legalized criminals. Here you can find some compassion for the poor people of America or of the US.
This is my book #78 in the Reduce Mount TBR 2017 -challence by Dove-i-libri.

Happy reading!
Began to read this last night. When I was a kid I went to a Catholic kindergarten held by a bunch of Dutch nuns. The head nun was to my mind old as the hills, a lovely little lady called Sister Simplicitas. I remember dropping in to say hello to her years after I had moved to a real school.
Following Sister Hyacinthe's lead I am experimenting with the products of nature. I have no idea what kuusenkerkkä is in English, but it is the same year's growth of a spruce, picked when the spikes are still soft and light green. I am trying to figure out how much, for how long and with what tea brands to use it with, but it gives a nice foresty twist to tea. Somebody said it could be used the same way as rosemary when cooking. It is a very good anti-oxidant and I noticed it, too. Started my experiments yesterday and today I have a big pimple on my face. Perhaps I'll put diapers on for the coming night, in case I get younger still!

Finished. Took a bit longer as yesterday the summer finally began and I spent more time outside.
Didn't quite recognize my childhood nuns from this story. A bit far-fetched plot, but the sheriff could have been related with the current president Trump, mannerwise. The latter might also end up with a bullet between his eyes one day, if he carries on like he does.
The thing about garbage disposal stroke odd to me, why would nuns bury cans as a way of disposal? Perhaps Americans think that cans grow out from the soil and if you plant one, you'll get a new one.

Nice bonus! Very entertaining, partly because this book was published 1975 when the world was quite different compared to this day - for example people wrote letters and had to go out to make a phone call. Nice mystery too, loved the nuns!
