I remember being very affected by this when I read it in my teens and to this day it still has me welling up. It is a beautifully written tribute to World War One, tailored for a younger reader and to give them a broad idea of the War and the changing attitudes on the early 20th century. A haunting tale that I would thoroughly recommend to any young reader.

I received this book from Alexotanil.
A sweet story that takes place during the first world war. It is a bit of a simple story, but it shows the changes in the society during the war. Women are starting to work and decide about their lives and the men that have to go to war, but not everybody believes the national propaganda. A fast and cosy read for the dark December nights.

A lovely little book about the first world war.
I liked the bitter sweet story, I liked the subtle hints on women's suffrage and emancipation (of which I wanted more) and I liked the way it was written. A pleasant story for the very warm days and night of a British heatwave
