5 out of 10

A Christmas story for people who have absolutely no faith at all. However, Christmas is a time for a complicated and extended family in London to gather together and celebrate. The family is made complicated by numerous divorces and children born outside of marriage. However, there are no money complications as the family is an upper class family with means. A lot of time is spent ruminating on sexual and romantic relationships. An abundance of crude humor is not considered by this reader to have been funny. The novel is set over a period of about three Christmases. Some things have happened during the intervening months that are never explained completely. The narrator of the story also complains a lot about her mother-in-law who becomes her ex-mother-in-law and the complaints are rather snobby.
