Journal Entry 2 by DHMO at Goffstown Rail Trail (see notes for details) in Goffstown, New Hampshire USA on Wednesday, October 18, 2017
Released 6 yrs ago (10/18/2017 UTC) at Goffstown Rail Trail (see notes for details) in Goffstown, New Hampshire USA
WILD RELEASE NOTES:
Left at trail head kiosk for Goffstown Rail Trail on Mast Rd., in parking lot across from ball fields.
I was delighted to find this book at the trailhead kiosk - it's seldom that I get a chance to go book-hunting and even more seldom that the book's still there! (Saw the other book as well, but left that for someone else.) I'd read this one before, but was glad to have a chance to add my thoughts; will try and find somewhere interesting to re-release it.
This isn't my favorite Hawthorne work - for that I'd pick The Blithedale Romance or some of his short stories. But Scarlet Letter was memorable for its depiction of people struggling against their own natures and/or against the restrictions placed on them by their society, with the result being some really crushing suffering on almost all sides.
[I saw the Demi Moore film when it first came out, and hadn't laughed so hard in a long time {wry grin} - when I wasn't wincing. And I don't even have a passion for Gary Oldman to ease the pain! Oh, and here's a link to the TV Tropes page on the book; there are mentions of various adaptations but it focuses on the original.]
